Based in Kenya, the QA/QC Manager will manage and oversee project quality to ensure compliance to codes, standards, regulations, equipment specific specifications, ISO certifications and IMS requirements. Advancing quality achievement and performance improvement throughout the organization.

Key responsibilities

Quality Management

  1. Develop, implement, and maintain the QA/QC Plan, ensuring compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements.
  2. Manage the quality management system and ensure inspectors are trained to conduct quality checks effectively.
  3. Liaise with subcontractors to ensure inspections are carried out as planned and meet client satisfaction.
  4. Conduct regular inspections and site walkarounds to verify compliance with project specifications, standards, and codes.
  5. Write, review, and approve method statements, inspection test plans (ITPs), Requests for Inspections (RFIs), and other quality-related documentation.
  6. Draft new procedures when required and proactively identify needs for implementation, including conducting relevant training.
  7. Identify and resolve non-conformances by implementing corrective and preventive actions.
  8. Coordinate with the document controller to ensure all documentation is updated on the client system and CSI documentation platform.
  9. Organize and conduct training sessions and toolbox meetings for quality awareness.

 

Coordination and Communication

  1. Liaise with clients, contractors, and subcontractors to address quality-related issues and align with project requirements.
  2. Participate in quality meetings with stakeholders to discuss progress, challenges, and solutions.
  3. Serve as the focal point for all quality-related matters on-site, ensuring smooth communication across teams.

 

Documentation and Reporting

  1. Maintain and update quality documentation, including QA/QC records, inspection reports, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and audit documents.
  2. Prepare and submit regular quality reports to the Project Manager and client.
  3. Ensure proper handover of quality documentation upon project completion.

 

Team Leadership and Training

  1. Lead and supervise the QA/QC team, ensuring roles and responsibilities are well-defined and understood.
  2. Provide training and guidance to the project team and subcontractors on quality management systems and industry best practices.
  3. Foster a culture of quality awareness and continuous improvement among site personnel.

 

Compliance and Standards

  1. Ensure strict compliance with ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 standards, and all applicable local regulations and industry codes.
  2. Monitor and evaluate subcontractors' quality performance to ensure alignment with project requirements.

 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Ensure quality records, acceptance certificates, mechanical completion certificates, and documentation for specific systems and buildings/areas are prepared and collated in accordance with project requirements.
  • Coordinate with the planning and scheduling department to ensure milestone dates are understood for each turnover area.
  • Coordinate with the site Construction  manager for the completion of as-built turnover documentation.
  • Resolve any discrepancies between completed milestones and quality documentation.
  • Assist site subcontractors in compiling turnover dossiers.
  • Provide progress information for incorporation into project reports.
  • Monitor hydrostatic test packs for incorporation into as-built dossiers.
  • Consider the implications of delays in QC as-built turnover documentation and bring them to the attention of the site Construction manager.
  • Monitor and control the status of punch lists and exception lists relevant to quality dossiers.
  • Attend daily /weekly QA/QC and commissioning meetings.
  • Coordinate any inconsistencies with test packages with the field QC site inspectors.
  • Provide progress data to the planning and scheduling department.

 

 

Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or related field) or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience: Minimum 8–10 years of experience in QA/QC management, preferably in geothermal or power plant projects.
  • Certifications: Lead Auditor Certification (ISO 9001:2015) or equivalent is preferred.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of construction, mechanical, electrical, piping, and instrumentation processes and standards (e.g., ASME, ASTM, IEC, etc.).
  • Skills: Exceptional leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills. Proficiency in QA/QC software and tools.
  • Other: Familiarity with geothermal projects and knowledge of local regulations is advantageous.

Experience

  • Experience in qualifying welders as per ASME, EN, AWS, etc.
  • Familiar with welding inspection processes.
  • Familiar with NDE processes and acceptance criteria.
  • Familiar with QA/QC handover documentation.
