Synergy: First Day, First Week & All The Time

Introductions to everyone ended and suddenly I was handed a tender to work on. Nervous as I was, everyone was very open and happy for me to contribute as much as I wanted to and were open to any suggestions and ideas. This instantly made me feel comfortable and definitely made me feel as though I was part of the team. Not too bad for a first day.
First week of work. We had to complete the tender handed to me on my first day. I was overwhelmed by the work and the responsibilities that were placed on me, but with the help of my Proposal Manager, who has had several years of experience in the industry, I felt more confident and supported as I knew my work would be double checked and any uncertainties were explained. By observing and learning from him, I managed to pick up tips and learned different types of skills, from learning to communicate and deal with other companies, to reading and deciphering many different types of plans.
The point of sharing these experiences with you is to point out one specific fact. I like my job and an opportunity like the one at CEG gave me a chance to apply my theoretical knowledge from Columbia University online to real life situations.
But I think what makes me love my job even more, is everyone around me.
CEG is a very diverse community, there are surveyors, project supervisors/managers in different countries across Africa but what makes this bunch special, is the synergy. Everyone in this group has different strengths and expertise and they all work together and organize their work in sync with one another so that work flows swiftly, and they are able to complete their work efficiently and on time. This in turn, manages to make the workplace better for the team, creating a comfortable atmosphere for both personal career growth and company growth.
Now, I have quiet days and busy days. But I also have a great team of people who I share the same goal to improve people’s lives, and together we are able to feel a greater sense of accomplishment as we are collectively responsible for the impact we are creating across Africa. I believe mutual support on shared goals, cooperation and encouragement are key ingredients for workplace synergy. When team members are aware of their own responsibilities and roles, as well as the significance of their output being relied upon by the rest of their team, they will then be driven to share the same vision, values, and goals. The result creates a workplace environment based on fellowship, trust, support, respect, and cooperation.
Overall, my work experience at CSI Energy Group was positive. I am very happy with the number of things I learned and experienced, been an Estimating Assistant with the company.
